The premise
AI scale, publishing responsibility.
Generative tools made a story library possible for a small family team. They did not make judgment optional. Models can draft, render, compare, and narrate. People decide the worlds, set the rules, reject failures, revise the work, and take responsibility for what is published.
The result sits between two familiar models: it has the freshness of generative media, but the predictable experience of a traditional book. The story a parent previews is the same story a child receives.

Editorial approval
A person reviews the actual pages for warmth, coherence, age fit, cultural care, and anything a rubric cannot understand. A failed chapter goes back; it does not continue automatically.

Referenced illustration
Series character sheets and scene-specific briefs guide each image. Generation is paced, retryable, and stored with model provenance so a scene can be regenerated without rebuilding the whole book.
Claude vision + people
Visual quality control
Images are checked against the brief for missing or duplicated characters, continuity, anatomy, unwanted text, scene logic, style, and fear level. People make the final call.

Narration and alignment
Stable voices carry a series across chapters. Word-level timestamps map the narration to each page so pre-readers can follow along while the story turns itself.
Human gate + fixed files
Package and publish
Approved text, images, audio, and timings become a versioned story bundle. The app downloads that bundle for offline use. There is no model call while a child is reading.
A real correction
Quality control has something concrete to stop.
Image models sometimes invent readable labels even when the brief explicitly prohibits text. This scene was held back and repaired before publication.

In The Machine from the Sea, a draft described “three children’s hearts” even though the scene contained two children and one twenty-year-old adult. The fresh-context review marked the chapter revise. Publication changed the line to “two children’s hearts.”
